When the worst happens and we find ourselves in need of surgery we expect to be safe in the hands of an expert surgeon. Now, though, there is an increasing chance that those hands will be used to guide a robotic arm which carries out the surgery whilst the surgeon watches a screen. More than 45,000 people globally have now been treated by the Versius system developed and built in Cambridge. In this talk we will hear the history of the company behind the machines, where they are now, and what the future holds in the field.

CMR Surgical, founded in 2014 as Cambridge Medical Robotics, is a Cambridge based company which is revolutionising the future of minimal access surgery with Versius, their next-generation surgical robotic system. Deployed in hospitals across the UK, Europe, Australia, and other regions internationally the system is designed to make minimal access surgery more versatile, portable, and accessible. Its design mimics the human arm to give surgeons enhanced dexterity and precision in tight operative spaces. Versius will fit into virtually any operating room; allowing it to be used with the hospital's existing workflow, with no changes needed to the hospital or clinic.

Refreshments will be available from 30 minutes before the advertised start time.
